A pregnancy test is a quick and simple  way to find out if you’re pregnant, they are available over the counter in a pharmacy.

Now what is it?

A pregnancy test check for the human chorionic gonadotropin hormone (HCG) present in the urine when a woman gets pregnant. The test often come in form of sticks with coloured band to show the results.

When should I take a pregnancy test

A pregnancy test is usually taken one day after missing your period. Although some pregnancy test are sensitive enough to detect it one week before your period is due. If you aren’t sure of the date of your next period, simply take the test 21 days after you had unprotected sex/birth control failure.

The best time to take a pregnancy test is in the morning as the urine ifs more concentrated, this will make it easier to detect the HCG hormone 

How to use an at home pregnancy test

Always the read the instructions included in test carefully before doing the test as they be different for each pregnancy test. To carry out the test you would usually pee on the stick  hold  the stick In your stream of urine for a few second or pee in a collection cup, using the dropper supplied place a small amount in the testing well ( if no dropper was provided depth absorbent end of th pregnant test into the cup for a few second. Place the testing stick on a flat dry surface, You should be able to see the results after a few minutes.

If you have a negative test result and still suspect pregnancy it might be that you carried out the test too early ,for the HCG hormone to be detected, repeat the test after a few days.

What should I do if  my test result is positive

A positive test result is most likely accurate. Speak to a doctor as soon as possible to confirm the result of your at home test , they will be able to give you advice on how to take care of your  self in the coming months and begin prenatal care.
